National Veterans Service Committee Activities

January 2018

by Nancy De Vito

I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays. It was a very busy month for Santa (Dave DeVito and Nancy DeVito) Mrs. Claus. We worked  one Air Force Squadron and 6 army battalion Christmas parties and provided toys for five of them. Our Elks make  a difference and are very appreciated in caring for our military.

Dec. 15th we cooked the annual holiday breakfast at base starting with all the prep work the day before chopping and cooking beacon and sausage . A big thank you to Regina, Julie, Irene, Charlie, and Ron for helping with the prep work. Then early to rise the next morning to be at base for 5:45 AM. Thank you Carol Scanlon, Irene Marquis, Julie Edvardson, Cus Dalik, Sharon Haugh, Phyllis Willever, Dino Castronova, Les Hill, Ron Panuska, Dave DeVito for being the best crew, we made a great team. The breakfast was enjoyed by all with a few added fun things such as a photo booth and beautiful crotched blankets made by Patty Podesta, Ann Marie O'Hare's- Aunt Bernice Clegg , and Stephanie Pandolph which we used as giveaway gifts in a raffle every hour. Any food that was leftover we donated to the fire department on base. In appreciation for our support  we received a beautiful gift which will be displayed at the lodge. Somehow Carol and Julie are missing maybe they are sitting by the fire behind us?

On Dec. 22 we delivered gifts at Willow Springs. Thank you Phyllis for putting the gifts together it's great to have helping hands. Thanks Irene, John and Luke for coming to deliver the gifts.

Upcoming events will be so far are visiting  Veterans for a Valentine's day party.
