National Veterans Service Committee Activities

October 2019

by Nancy De Vito

Fall is here my favorite time of year. We had our last fishing trip for the year which unfortunately our Veterans from east orange were not able to make it once again due to a transportation issue. If we had known much earlier, we may have been able to get more veteran on the boat. But all in all, the Veterans from Lakewood Center had a wonderful day of fishing and a delicious meal back at the lodge. We look forward to having this group and more next year.

The holidays will be here before you know it , as of now Santa and Mrs Claus will be bringing holiday cheer two four Christmas parties at base. In the past we bought Christmas presents for the children ,it’s a huge undertaking but rewarding to see the happy faces. I thought it maybe easier to collect new books or even coloring books & crayons for the children. There has been many deployments in the past six months some are deployed for up to a year. These children are my heros, they have one parent not home for the holiday and just day to day business. They deal with their separation the best way they can I’m sure most of the time there are tears of saddens. They are brave soldiers if you ask me. Our help to these families will be more appreciated by those  taking care of the family at home. WHAT CHILD DOESN”T WANT A TOY OR SOMETHING FROM SANTA! Let us be there Santa! If you can help please let me know .Age range from 1 to 12

We also are running a baby shower/ luncheon for expecting Military Moms come April . Our goal is to make 100 goodie bags for 100 expecting Moms.
Items: Johnson Baby shampoo, Johnson baby magic, wipes, new born diapers etc. Myself and with the help of Stephanie Pandolph we are crocheting car seat blankets and bonnets for every baby. And Karen Laudusi is making awesome hats with a military logo on it they are amazing. If you members can help with these items that will be great appreciated.

Wish to help contact me the Veteran Chairperson Nancy DeVito.

God Bless America and God Bless our Troops.

So long as there are Veterans,
the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks will never forget them!
