National Veterans Service Committee Activities

January 2019

by Nancy De Vito
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and have a happy healthy New Year. This year was a rough year for our lodge. I pray that the coming year brings good cheer and well wishes for ALL our Elk Charities. Ask any lodge committee chairperson and they will tell you how the unexpected bad weather and lack of community support has affected their fundraising efforts this year.

The Veterans Committee can use your support when we run fund raisers. Without support of the members we cannot continue helping our Vets/ military. So please help us care for those who served and are serving. We as Elks must never forget them. There may be a possible Veterans dinner dance soon, restaurant raffles, 50/50 raffle which we run, and drawing is at the fluke tournament. I urge you to support them for the good of the order.

Santa and I have been none stop bringing cheer to our Military families at joint base. It is a magical experience listening to the children ask what they want for Christmas and having Santa converse with them. It was amazing hearing the military children’s minimum requests for Christmas as opposed to other off base events we attended. Off base the requests were for PS4, Xboxes, and iPhones. On base it was books, backpacks, and things for their families. The hardest one was a Mother of three young children who said all she wanted for Christ-mas is her husband to come home. I pray he surprises them for Christmas! Keep them in your prayer’s please.

Our annual Holiday breakfast at base was a huge success we served up 400 omelets to order. Thank you, Chris Torode, for your kindness and discount for our military they really enjoyed the photo booth. Also Thank you to my fellow elks for their dedication from the prepping to the actual breakfast day. I can’t express how proud I am for all your help in providing for this special day.

So long as there are Veterans,
the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks will never forget them!
