National Veterans Service Committee Activities

September 2021

by Nancy De Vito

Fall is almost here!

It had to be the hottest summer ever. I pray that our country gets back on track and life as we know it returns to normal. It’s tough not seeing our Veterans at the Nursing homes in person. But we have not forgotten about them nor will we ever.

Our last fishing trip was a huge success the Navy and a few Veterans enjoyed a great day of fishing and then back to the lodge for a good meal. I have to say the hugs were very much appreciated.

I had the pleasure of volunteering to do face painting and balloons to help our veterans that suffer from PTSD and their families. It was held at Lake Julianna where part of the Vet’s therapy is to teach special needs children to fish. What a fun bunch of Veterans.

I had the honor of touring the Dover Air Force base in Delaware. The Fisher House located on base is where all fallen soldiers go before they go to there resting place. Little did I know that two days later we lost 13 soldiers. It is so heart breaking.

JBMDL is collecting clothes for refugees, children, women, and men. The committee’s generosity has been over welling. JBMDL has sent out a flyer, they need to sort what they have right now but hygiene products such as soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo, sanitary napkins, diapers, wipes are always needed.

October 9 the Southeast District is having a 50’s dance fund raiser at the Manasquan lodge. PLEASE support them, all proceeds go to support our Veterans. So come on down!

Thank you to Pat Podesta for crocheting a beautiful American flag blanket.  As one who crochets a lot of work and time goes into a project.

So long as there are Veterans,
the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks will never forget them!
