Special Needs Children's Committee
Point Pleasant Elks Lodge's
Special Needs Children's Committee (SNCC) supports the NJ Elks State
Project, Camp
Moore, which provides a camping experience for special
campers at no cost, but also works locally in the Point Pleasant, Point
Pleasant Beach and Bay Head area to assist special needs children and
young adults. In addition, the committee provides free
loaners of wheel chairs, walkers, crutches and other equipment for
anyone who needs them.
Throughout the year the SNCC raises funds for the children it sponsors,
assists with South East District projects and of course, besides
providing funding, provices a day at the shore for Camp Moore campers
on the last Wednesday in July. The day begins with a boat
ride, followed by a picnic and games back at the lodge. After
lunch fire trucks and emergency vehicles from the surrounding area take
our visitors on a ride through the borough with sirens blazing - the
hightlight of their day. Finally, back at the lodge, ice
cream awaits for them before they load up the buses for the ride back
to Camp Moore. A large number of volunteers and contributions
assure the success of this day at the shore.
The Committee participates in the State's
Special Children's Scholarship as well as locally provides
scholarships to graduating special needs students.
The committee also sponsors a Christmas Party with
games, gifts,
lunch and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus. Again, all of
this is possible with volunteers and contributions given to
the SNCC.
